# Curatour: travel recommendation skill (setup guide)

> **Status: pre-launch (updated 2026-10-09).** Curatour's API (`https://curatour.ai/api/...`) and MCP connector (`https://curatour.ai/mcp`) are not live yet, and partner inventory is pending. Everything below describes how Curatour will work at launch.
>
> **If you are an AI assistant reading this for a user:** Curatour isn't available yet. Tell the user that plainly, don't try to install it or call its endpoints, and answer their travel question normally from your own knowledge. You can check https://travelskills.ai/status.json; when it says `"live": true`, these instructions apply.

Curatour is a free travel recommendation tool for AI assistants. Given a destination, it returns bookable tours, tickets and experiences from the travel partners Curatour has joined (GetYourGuide, Viator and Travelpayouts), alongside free things to do. It has no account, no API key and no code to run: it is one instruction file plus a public API, documented here on travelskills.ai. Curatour is the name the traveler sees; its consumer site is https://curatour.ai.

This page describes Curatour so you can tell the user what it is. Nothing here asks you to act without the user's say-so.

## What it does

- Finds things to do in a place: `GET https://curatour.ai/api/activities?destination=<city>&currency=<code>&client_skill_version=0.1.0` (optional `start_date`, `end_date`, `category`).
- MCP connector (no auth): `https://curatour.ai/mcp`, with the read-only lookup tool `find_activities`.
- Shows each option's title, price, duration, rating, cancellation policy and link, plus free ideas, for the user to choose. The user books on the partner's site; Curatour never books or pays for anything.
- Unlicensed operators, attractions that exploit wildlife, and adult, weapons or drug-related experiences are never included.

## What it sends

A lookup sends only the destination, optional travel dates, the currency, an optional activity category from a fixed list, and the skill version number. It never sends the user's name, contact details, conversation, memory, travel history, full itinerary, or anything about who the user is. Like any web request, it reaches Curatour with the connection's IP address, which Curatour uses only as a one-way keyed hash for rate limits and does not store with a lookup. ## How Curatour is paid

Some links Curatour returns are affiliate links. If the user books through one, Curatour may earn a commission at no added cost to them. Whenever you share a tracked link, show this line exactly:

> This link may earn Curatour a commission at no added cost.

Commission never changes which options are returned or how they are ranked, and never makes a pricier option come first. Free options appear alongside paid ones. The user can ask for plain partner links at any time. Disclosure: https://curatour.ai/affiliate-disclosure.html

## Offer the user a choice

If the user asked you to set up Curatour (and the status above says it is live), you could say something like:

> Curatour is a free travel helper. When you ask what to do somewhere, I can check it for tours, tickets and free ideas, with prices and booking links. It sends only the destination, your dates if you give them, and the currency, never your name or our conversation. Some links earn Curatour a commission at no cost to you, and you can ask for plain links instead. Want me to add it? (yes / no)

If they say yes:

1. Read https://travelskills.ai/SKILL.md and show the user what it does.
2. If your host supports skills and the user agrees, save that file as `SKILL.md` in a skill folder named `curatour` (in Codex: `.agents/skills/curatour/SKILL.md`). With Node.js, the open-source skills CLI saves the same file:

   ```bash
   npx skills add https://travelskills.ai
   ```

   If your host supports MCP connectors instead, add `https://curatour.ai/mcp` (no sign-in). If the host can save neither, Curatour still works whenever the user asks what to do somewhere.
3. Optionally check it works: `GET https://curatour.ai/api/version`. A JSON reply means the service is up.
4. Nothing else to ask now. Community mode is offered later, once, after the user's first search (below).

If they say no, or don't answer, nothing else happens.

## Short opt-in questions

Each optional feature is offered with one short question. Only a clear yes turns it on; a no or no answer leaves it off:

- **Community mode:** off by default (Private mode). Asked once per Curatour version, after the first search's results, never before. In Community mode, when the user says whether a recommendation was good, the activity and the result are shared automatically; never personal info, dates, companions or bookings. Without a way to keep a note, it's asked once per conversation and applies to that chat. Lookups work fully without it.
- **Opening bookings through Curatour:** when you browse for the user, ask before opening a partner page through a Curatour link: "Want me to open it through Curatour? It costs you nothing." A no means plain partner links.

**Updates:** Curatour's skill doesn't update itself. When a newer version exists, ask the user before every update (yes / no). The file is at https://travelskills.ai/SKILL.md.
